Maynilad Labor Dispute Settled-249 Maynilad Workers to Get Over P46M Economic Package

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) today said the labor dispute at Maynilad Water Services, Inc. that could have disrupted the flow of water to six million Maynilad customers in Metro Manila and Cavite has been settled amicably benefitting 249 workers who stand to receive a total of P46.608 million in wage increases and other economic benefits.

Labor and Employment Secretary Marianito D. Roque said the disputing labor and management at Maynilad finally agreed to iron out their differences to prevent untoward incidents that would affect water services to millions of Maynilad customers.

Roque cited the two parties for upholding public interests over their own interests. He said the settlement of their dispute exemplifies the maturity of social partners who prioritize the common good over selfish ends, stressing that it underscores the national efforts to foster industrial peace and prevent incidents that would disrupt economic activities and dislocate workers.

He also lauded the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) for exhausting all means to settle the Maynilad labor dispute.

The agreement signed both by representatives of labor and management of Maynilad last Feb. 5 provides that each covered worker would receive P1,500 monthly wage increase and P200 monthly rice and meal allowance on the fourth and fifth years.
